Mrs Kurnia Khairani

Kurnia Oktavia Khairani has served as Director of ALeRT (Alliance of Integrated Forest Conservation) since 2023, leading biodiversity conservation programs in critical landscapes across Indonesia. Her work focuses on key protected areas, including Ujung Kulon National Park, the last remaining habitat of the Javan rhinoceros; Way Kambas National Park, home to the Sumatran elephant, Sumatran tiger, and other endangered species; and forest landscapes in East Kalimantan, which hold the last remaining Sumatran rhinos in Kalimantan. She earned her veterinary degree from Bogor Agricultural Institute and completed postdoctoral training at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. With more than a decade of experience in conservation, she specializes in endangered species management, particularly for Javan and Sumatran rhinos. Her expertise includes population management, habitat restoration, One Health approaches, and science-based conservation solutions, including assisted reproductive technologies. She has also contributed to scientific publications and led collaborations among government agencies, NGOs, universities, and international conservation partners.
