Nairobi, Kenya

Lucy Vigne has a degree in Zoology from Oxford University and a PhD in Sociology from Oxford Brookes University in UK on the rhino horn and ivory trade from 1980 to 2020. For much of her early career she researched the illegal rhino horn trade in Yemen, and poaching and smuggling challenges in India and Nepal. In the early 21st century she spent time in the main markets for illegal rhino horn (and ivory) in Vietnam, Lao PDR and Myanmar, as well as China and other places to learn and spread awareness about illegal markets to increase law enforcement, and to understand demand trends. More recently she has been in Malaysia and Indonesia visiting all areas with rhinos today to help spread awareness for support and funding for Sumatran and Javan rhinos. She is also a member of the IUCN African Elephant Specialist Group and African Rhino Specialist Group.
