Dr Maheshwar Dhakal

Dr. Maheshwar Dhakal is a Senior Joint Secretary and the Chief of the Climate Change Management Division at the Ministry of Forests and Environment, Nepal. With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Dhakal is a recognized expert in climate change, biodiversity conservation, and international diplomacy. Dr. Dhakal has a long experience as an ecologist in the Terai Arc Landscape and mage fauna particularly tiger rhino and elephant including snow leopard. He represents Nepal as the National Focal Point to both the UNFCCC and the IPCC. Additionally, he serves as an Alternate Board Member for the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD) on behalf of the Least Developed Countries (LDC) Group. A seasoned negotiator, Dr. Dhakal has a wealth of experience in shaping national, regional, and global policies on climate change and biodiversity. He holds a Master’s in Environmental Sciences and a Ph.D. in Environmental Economics from the University of Tsukuba, Japan.
