Mr Prashant Kumar

Currently working with the Uttarakhand Forest department as Senior Project Associate (Wildlife), dedicated to the conservation, research, and recovery of the Greater One-horned Rhino. My work focuses on implementing science-driven strategies to ensure the long-term survival of Asian rhino populations through rigorous field-based monitoring and habitat evaluation. I have developed significant expertise in the technical and logistical planning of rhino translocation and reintroduction programs, which are vital for restoring the species to its historical range and expanding its current footprint. My research interests center on the ecological success of reintroduced rhinos and the refinement of post-release monitoring protocols. I am also deeply involved in mitigating human-rhino conflict and enhancing anti-poaching efforts through wildlife forensics and community engagement. Through my participation in the AsRSG, I aim to advance collaborative efforts in translocation biology and habitat management, ensuring a resilient and secure future for rhinos across their fragmented landscapes.
