Dr. Rathin Barman is a trained wildlife biologist and currently serves as the Director of the Wildlife Trust of India. With more than three decades of experience, he has led several landmark conservation initiatives in Assam. His notable contributions include establishing and managing the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation near Kaziranga National Park, one of India’s leading wildlife rescue and rehabilitation facilities, and facilitating the translocation of rhinos and eastern swamp deer from Kaziranga to Manas National Park. He also played a key role in the creation and expansion of several protected areas in Assam, including Nameri National Park, Orang National Park, Raimona National Park and Shikha Jwalao National Park. Dr. Barman has been instrumental in the revival of the Manas landscape through conservation translocations, habitat expansion, and community engagement. He represents WTI on the Assam State Board for Wildlife, the Rhino Task Force, and several key government committees.
